We know everyone is being affected by the current crisis. AIA Birmingham does not want to put any additional stress on those who submitted projects for Design Awards, so we have decided to shift our timeline. We will provide more information and a date for the Design Awards Gala as the situation develops. Please reach out to email@example.com for more information.
Current AIA Birmingham Members: Submitters must be licensed or associate architects. Projects must have been started after January 1, 2015 and executed anywhere in the U.S. or abroad. Unbuilt projects are welcome!
Non-AIA Birmingham Members: Submitters must be a licensed architect in the state of Alabama and the project must be in the state of Alabama completed after January 1st, 2015.
Each entry will include a social media blast. Each winning project power point will scroll on the AIA Birmingham website home page for one year. Project boards will be exhibited in public spaces and at the Alabama Center for Architecture (ACFA).
BONUS: All Winning projects from AIA Alabama’s Excellence in Design Awards & AIA Birmingham’s Design Awards will be exhibited at the ACFA Awards Ceremony, Architecture that Heals, on July 21st at Regions Park.

Who: Michael Murphy, Founding Principal and Executive Director of MASS Design Group
The MASS project, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama was named the single greatest work of American architecture in the 21st century. Murphy’s 2016 TED talk has reached over a million views!
ANOTHER BONUS: Honor Award winning residential projects will serve as the AIA Birmingham advertisement in one issue of Birmingham Home & Garden magazine.
DESIGN AWARDS CATEGORIES
NON-RESIDENTIAL – Institutional, Commercial, Adaptive Reuse, Historic Preservation, Unbuilt, Design Detail, and Multifamily Projects built after January 1, 2015.
RESIDENTIAL – Residential Projects built after January 1, 2015.
Current AIA Birmingham members: The first submission is $200, and each additional submission is $150 each. One complimentary ticket to the awards event will be provided for the submitting firm.
Non- AIA Birmingham members: All submission for non-members are $400 each. One complimentary ticket to the awards event will be provided for the submitting firm.
