Hello Smart Architects
So much to discuss with you. First give yourselves a pat on the back! Through generous contributions and the golf tournament, you guys awarded $9250 in scholarships. And contributed $6000 to the Alabama Center for Architecture capital improvement campaign (still accepting donations too). Nice work! We have AV equipment now, official donor signage and acoustics are in progress. Movie night coming soon!
It is that time of year, time to nominate new councilors for the 2016 AIA Birmingham board. Responsibilities include attending one board meeting a month, attend all state quarterly meetings, serve on a committee, attend chapter meetings, represent our membership and help promote the profession. We have a good time. The board meetings are not stuffy. We will present the 2016 board at the November 6th annual tradeshow. Not ready for that much of a commitment? Try a committee to test the waters. We are always looking for new peeps on committees and welcome FRESH NEW ideas. Design Awards this year will be a FRESH format, don’t miss it! Open to other new ideas, email aiabirm@aiabham.org or call 322.4386.
Enjoy the last days of summer vacation with your families and get ready for a rocking AIA Fall.

In the past few years, building for natural disasters has been thrust into the public eye after recent tornadoes wiped out entire cities and took many American lives. Architects must work to stay aware of these challenges when setting out to design safe, strong and durable buildings for tenants and occupants.
