Happy March!
What a successful first quarter! We have had so many opportunities for HSWs and it is only March. We are going to Cahaba Brewery for our March meeting, it is time to hear about CONCRETE!
March is ARCHITECTURE awareness month at the Alabama Center for Architecture. We have NO IDEA what to expect with our LEGO Design Build exhibit. We could have 500 kids visit the exhibit or 100, this is our first exhibit that targets kids. Parents have to bring the kids to the exhibit and that is our opportunity to educate the parents about the VALUE an ARCHITECT brings to any project, small or large.
We still need volunteers to PLAY at the exhibit. If you have a kid, volunteer and bring him or her and spend some quality time building with LEGOS at the exhibit. We have a photo booth to take pictures of the completed LEGO designs too. We also have some great LEGO architecture on exhibit Alabama Power headquarters, Alabama Theatre, The White House, Falling Waters and more!
And the most exciting news is our Florence Design Road Trip (replaces state convention)!!! Volunteer for the Friday Charrette working in the Florence downtown community with Main Street Florence. Friday evening, opening reception with story boards from the charrette. Saturday morning breakfast, lecture and tour with Natalie Chanin of Alabama Chanin. Incredible designer! Then a tour thru the Walnut neighborhood, recording studios and an evening with a musician panel at the GunRunner Hotel. I can’t wait!!! And then Bloody Mary Sunday’s at the only Frank Lloyd Wright house in the state of AL – the ROSENBAUM!!! More info coming soon!
Peace and AIA Love,
Rhea Williams, AIA Birmingham and ACFA Executive Director
