Recap: March Meeting – Wheel Friendly Parks & Special Needs
Faith Skate Supply held the March Chapter Meeting, and our hosts Crys Worley and Peter Karvonen spoke to their work with The A.Skate Foundation, the nonprofit founded by Crys and Peter, which uses skateboards as a means of therapy for children with autism. Skatepark designer Michael McIntyre, who has worked alongside A.Skate for years to bring a skatepark to Birmingham, presented his own design strategies and discussed the accessibility features that make a park ideal for autism therapy. Hosted by the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design, both located in the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction, this week-long day camp offers an intensive design experience while exploring that explores the disciplines of graphic design, industrial design, architecture & landscape architecture.
