DESCRIPTION:The Alabama Center for Architecture (ACFA) invites you to join us at our gallery (109 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. South) for the Fourth Annual Posters\, Pints & Pies exhibit opening reception on Thursday\, January 31 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. \nHand-selected by local music-lovers\, these show posters are curated from private collections and have included Grateful Dead\, Phish\, Widespread Panic\, Drive-By Truckers\, Ben Harper\, MOE\, BB King\, Galactic\, Jefferson Airplane\, The Black Keys\, Warren Haynes\, Gov’t Mule\, Bob Dylan\, Lumineers\, Keller Williams and so many more. \nDave’s Pizza\, Diplomat Deli\, and Cahaba Brewery are providing delicious pizza and libations\, and we will also be raffling off some marvelous prizes. \n$10 cash donation at the door\, which benefits educational programs for the Alabama Center for Architecture\, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. \nThis exhibit and opening reception are sponsored by The Beveled Edge\, Cahaba Brewery\, Dave’s Pizza\, and Diplomat Deli. \nThe exhibit will be free and open to the public through February 28 at the Alabama Center for Architecture. John Hudson is a founding member of 100 Fold Studio. He is an award-winning architect and non-profit pioneer. His passion is to train the next generation of architects to create places that are safe\, efficient and inspiring in developing nations. John has spoken at TEDx Whitefish\, Montana; the USGBC Montana Summit at Big Sky\, Montana; and The Gathering in Dallas\, Texas. He has also presented at various architecture schools including Cal Poly\, Judson University and Montana State. 100 Fold Studio is a 501(c)(3) architecture firm located in Lakeside\, Montana. \nThe nonprofit is a collaborative studio transforming lives through architecture. International projects include campuses in Bangladesh\, Cambodia\, and Nepal. U.S. work includes a performance space for a Native American community in Polson\, MT and a concert pavilion for charitable events in Lakeside\, MT. John is a native of Birmingham\, AL\, and graduated with an M.A. from the Univ. of Virginia in 1997. John served as Chair of USGBC Alabama – Birmingham Chapter in 2010. The Documents Committee strives to achieve balance in the contract language and to build consensus among the industry stakeholders. \nThis program will give attendees an insight into the AIA’s revision process\, as well as a chance to learn about the revised Owner-Architect agreements.  Subject matter experts and practitioners will share their experiences with all participants as they examine the newly revised Owner-Architect agreements. The program will prepare participants to select appropriate AIA contracts for their particular project and practice\, as well as to evaluate the suitability of alternative contract terms and language. Presenters will also discuss the new Sustainable Projects Exhibit and explore how it can provide a positive impact on the health and safety of building occupants. \nAbout Andy Mendelson\, FAIA \nAndrew D. Mendelson\, FAIA\, is Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Management Officer of Berkley Design Professional Underwriters an operating company of the W.R. Berkley Insurance Corporation formed in 2013.  Andy joined Berkley DP in July 2013 after a 36+ year career as a licensed architect and firm principal with a diverse background of practice\, project\, financial\, operations and risk management experience particularly in the large A/E firm environment. He has held corporate leadership positions as CFO\, Contracting Officer and Director of the Education market sector at OWP/P (Chicago) and prior to joining Berkley DP served as Director of Practice Management for Cannon Design. \nAndy is an acknowledged design industry leader in the area of risk management and contracting.
