SUMMARY:LU: Improve Energy Efficiency with Addressable Lighting (Lighting Solutions - Platinum Sponsor)
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, March 9 | 10-11 AM CT\nClick here to Register! (Provided by Lighting Solutions of Alabama – Platinum Chapter Sponsor)\nThis AIA certified course explores the ways in which an addressable lighting control system and a digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) system can improve the overall energy efficiency of a lighting system. People living and working in building environments report higher ratings of lighting quality\, overall environmental satisfaction\, and self-rated productivity. People with dimming control showed more sustained motivation\, and improved performance on a measure of attention. The differences between designing and wiring traditional relay or 0-10V lighting control systems and addressable lighting control systems will be reviewed.\nControls systems are required by code systems today and control not only the lights but the shades\, building systems and data for usage. This in turn allows for greater energy savings/ energy management\, better usage of spaces within the built environment and higher user satisfaction of the lighting as well as the environment itself.

SUMMARY:LU: LM's and TMs and Standards - Oh my! Navigating the LED alphabet soup (Lighting Solutions - Platinum Sponsor)
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, March 23 | 12-1 PM CT\nClick here to Register! (Provided by Lighting Solutions of Alabama – Platinum Chapter Sponsor)\nToday’s lighting world is full of abbreviations and “TLAs” (Three Letter Acronyms) … heck\, even LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a TLA! This presentation will help you sort out that Alphabet Soup and determine which of these are relevant for your particular projects. We will discuss the most common LED product listing bodies\, DLC (Design Lights Consortium) and Energy Star\, and clarify how these may impact your specifications. We’ll also go through the basics of today’s IES(Illuminating Engineering Society) TM (Technical Memoranda) and LM (Lighting Measurement) publications for LEDs. \nAnd finally\, we will touch on TM-30\, the new publication for Evaluating Light Source Color Rendition\, and how that compares to traditional CRI (Color Rendering Index). And at the end of it all you will have learned your ABC’s of today’s LED world. Codes and standards are written to promote safety of the public in buildings. Standards for lighting are written by the Illuminating Engineering Society and when met these standards assure quality of fixtures. Product listing bodies such as Energy Star and DLC require minimal.

SUMMARY:"The Impact Glare from Lighting has on User Health (HSW)" - Lighting Solutions (Platinum)
DESCRIPTION:11/12 | 12-1 PM | HSW\nOne of the most important and least explored phases of lighting design is that complex and indefinite one which is known as glare. (M. Luckiesh and L.L Holiday; 1925). Proper lighting design\, architectural lighting and glare mitigation are often hard to combine\, particularly when a certain appearance is desired\, but the fixture selected is not conducive to the space because of glare. VCP\, UGR\, Intensity or Luminance values on their specification sheet? How do we balance glare mitigation or create a healthy space while meeting the architectural design intent? This presentation will teach the designer how to read and understand these values and terms all while creating a healthy space. Lighting Design can add to the architectural value and safety of a building or an environment. Glare from a lighting fixture can result in discomfort or in some cases pain and inability to navigate a space. It is important to understand the terms and information available to the design community when comparing fixture specifications and determining the best fixture for an application that will mitigate glare and provide safe illumination for the user of the building. \nRegister online here!\nPresented by Lighting Solutions (Platinum Sponsor)

SUMMARY:"Wireless Technologies Connected Lighting (IoT) (HSW)" - Lighting Solutions (Platinum)
DESCRIPTION:11/02 | 12-1 PM | HSW\nThis course will explore how we use wireless controls to meet controls strategies and how wireless controls can provide a stepping stone into the connected world of the Internet of Things. We will look at the history that has brought lighting and controls to the point they are at today and discuss why wireless is now being seen as a leading solution for connected lighting applications. We will cover the most commonly used wireless control technologies and the basics of how they work in order to understand proper application and design. We will look at triggers in our controls application that may require Information Technology (I.T.) personnel involved as well as what information I.T. may need to assist with addressing access and security concerns. \nRegister online here!\nPresented by Lighting Solutions (Platinum Sponsor)

SUMMARY:"Acoustics in the Office Environment - Sound Off! (HSW)" - Lighting Solutions (Platinum)
DESCRIPTION:11/10 | 12-1 PM | HSW\nWhen new open office and space design evolved in taking down the cubicle walls and opening up the ceiling plane\, the sound-absorbing materials went out the window as well. By adding sound absorption materials onto the light fixture\, sound absorption materials can be added back into spaces in increments of a lighting layout. \nRegister online here!\nPresented by Lighting Solutions (Platinum)

SUMMARY:HSW: Principles of UV and its use as a Germicidal
DESCRIPTION:9/29 // 12-1 PM // HSW\nClick here to register! \nThe COVID-19 global pandemic is having an enormous impact on almost every aspect of our lives. The rapid and easy spread of this virus has created a substantial amount of interest in the germicidal properties of ultra violet and the possibility of using this spectrum to disinfect various applications. This presentation will cover the three types of ultra violet and levels of germicidal properties and capabilities. \nThe history of the use of various lamp sources which can deliver UV will be explored as well as the risks associated with the various types. UVC will be specifically discussed as a germicidal\, including how it can be used in various applications such as water\, air cleaning and sanitizing items and surfaces\, as well as “inactivates” COVID –19 (SARS-CoV-2). \nPresented by Lighting Solutions (Platinum Sponsor)
