SUMMARY:Sponsor Event: Zumtobel Road Show 2017 by AMA Lighting (1 LU)
DESCRIPTION:I am super excited to let you know about the Zumtobel Road Show 2017 that will be here in Birmingham on October 11th.  Thomas Wunderlich with Zumtobel Lighting\, Zac White with AMA Lighting and myself will be hosting the event.  Graham Whittaker will be our presenter. \nGraham will be presenting on “Limbic Lighting” at 8 AM\, noon and 4 PM.  We will be serving a continental breakfast\, lunch and hors d’oevres for each of the three presentations. \nA reception will follow the last presentation from 5 PM to 7PM with beer and wine.  We will have tables set up with the samples on them for you to look at before or after each of the presentations.  Please email Chris Basselin at cbasselin@amalighting.com to confirm if you will be available for one of the presentations. \n  \nBirmingham Marriott \n3590 Grandview Parkway \nBirmingham\, Alabama 35243 \n  \nCourse Title: Limbic Lighting – How to influence buying decisions of shoppers \nCourse Number: AIAZUMTOBEL2 2015 \nCourse Description: One of the key topics in shop and retail design is creating \nunique shopping experiences and target group activation. There is a large interest in understanding the motivation and main drivers of shoppers. However latest neuro science studies show that 90% our decisions as humans are based on emotions\, these emotion driven decisions are also driving the buying decisions at point of sale. As lighting experts\, we understand that light impacts on people’s mood\, emotion and therefore wellbeing – both in a positive and negative ways .However we realized that lighting and emotion has never been researched in the shop and retail environment from a consumer perspective until now. The results of the limbic lighting study show that lighting is closely related to the wellbeing of the customers and therefore dwell times and individual spending significantly\, in fact 10% if applied in the right way. Limbic lighting is not connected to specific lighting technology\, it is more deeply linked to a better and profound understanding of the shopper and their behavior. This study and course allows architects and interior designers to understand the consumers side of lighting better and enhance shop design according to the needs of the customer target groups \nCourse Format: Instructor-led face-to-face \nNumber of Course Learning Units: 1 \nCredit Designations: LU \nLearning Objective 1: Understand what drives buying decisions of shoppers in a \nretail environment and what this could be used to the advantage of your customers. Learn how Gerry Weber increased sales in a shop by 10% with Limbic Lighting. \nLearning Objective 2: Learn about three different shopper types and the lighting \ndesigns which attract them most. \nLearning Objective 3: Learn about neuroscience and how we are affected as \nhumans unconsciously by built environment and design. \nLearning Objective 4: Know about the right approach and the right tools to apply \ntarget group specific lighting

In addition\, content will include information on wood building design considerations and provide links to reference material that an Architect can utilize in his/her daily course of work. \n\nParticipants will learn about various types of wood materials including sawn lumber\, engineered lumber\, metal plate connected trusses and more.\nParticipants will discuss important considerations when designing wood-framed structures\, focusing on roofs\, floors\, walls\, columns and connections.\nParticipants will discuss lateral design features\, such as horizontal diaphragms\, shear walls and prefabricated shear walls.\nFinally\, participants will learn about special considerations when designing with wood\, including shrinkage\, treated materials and exterior brick veneer.\n\nContinuous Load Path Connections: IRC 2015 Structural Requirements for Wood-Framed Construction (1 HSW)\nSpeaker: Billy Viars\, Simpson Strong Tie\nThe continuous load path is a vital part of the structural integrity of a wood framed structure. This requirement of the International Residential Code helps ensure the structure transfers all wall loads from the point of origin to the strongest part of the structure – the foundation. This course reviews many of the various connection points and the different options available to make them. \nObjectives: \n\nExplain the continuous load path requirement and various types of connection methods.\nDefine IRC roof tie-down and uplift resistance requirements\, potential solutions and considerations.\nIdentify specific requirements and solutions for stud to plate connections.\nIdentify code-compliant floor to floor connections for multi-story construction.\nDescribe mudsill to foundation requirements and identify various anchorage methods\n\n  \nMid-Rise Design: Optimizing Size\, Maximizing Value [1 HSW]\nSpeaker: Jeff Peters\, P.E.\, WoodWorks – Wood Products Council\nAs cities seek increased density as a way to address urban population growth\, many building designers and developers are looking to mid-rise wood construction as a cost- effective\, code-compliant and sustainable solution. This presentation will cover some of the design considerations associated with mid-rise wood-frame buildings\, including how to maximize height and area through the use of sprinklers\, open frontage\, sloping sites\, podiums and mezzanines. Construction types will be reviewed\, with an emphasis on opportunities for wood use in types III and V. \n\nIn the context of a shift toward increased urban density\, discuss how mid-rise\, wood- frame construction meets housing needs while contributing to vibrant and sustainable communities.\nDiscuss allowable construction types\, occupancies\, and building heights and areas for wood-frame mid-rise construction per the 2012 International Building Code.\nIdentify potential modifications to the IBC’s base tabular heights and areas based on building frontage\, sprinklers\, sloping sites\, podiums and mezzanines.\nDescribe changes to the heights and areas tables and building size calculations in the 2015 IBC.
