However\, most people are not\nunaware of the numerous chemicals and materials they are exposed to on a daily basis\, nor do they\nunderstand the hazards associated with these substances. As such\, the need for a standardized way\nof reporting the health impacts of building materials is desperately needed. In this one-hour course\,\nthe design professional will become familiar with the Health Product Declaration TM (HPD)\, a material\ningredient reporting standard developed under the guidance of the HPD Collaborative TM. We will\nexplore how HPDs contribute to the creation of healthier buildings\, how to read and interpret an HPD\,\nand how the HPD can contribute to points in LEED v4.\nLearning Objectives:\n· Define the objective of the HPD.\n· Discuss why the HPD is important for human health\, and how it can contribute to healthier\nbuildings.\n· Explain how products with an HPD can contribute to points in LEED v4.\n· Recognize the HPD format\, and understand what constitutes a “compliant” HPD.\n· Interpret the information presented in an HPD and appreciate how HPD can be used by design\nprofessionals. \n‘This Agenda is not a final schedule\, and is subject to updates\, additions and changes’

SUMMARY:Listen Up! Historic Preservation Conference of Mississippi
DESCRIPTION:Are you all signed up for the Listen Up! Historic Preservation Conference in Tupelo?  An all-star cast of Mississippi’s most creative and innovative preservationists will share their extensive knowledge about how to make projects come alive in your neck of the woods. \nSunday\, June 8 \nCome early to catch the Elvis Gospel Brunch that morning and tour Highland Circle with Bruce Smith that afternoon. Cool down after your jaunt with a cocktail in Doyce and Bill Deas’ lovely garden and catch up with your fellow preservationists at the Welcome Party and MHT Annual Meeting. \nMonday\, June 9 \nAfter a warm welcome to lovely historic Tupelo by Mayor Jason Shelton\, Ernesto Caldeira of Woodville will spin a colorful yarn about his efforts to ensure that Woodville is a place that “gets it” when it comes to historic preservation.  Next up\, noted preservation architect Belinda Stewart will help participants learn to “read” a historic building\, from clues to its original design to later changes and their significance.  Belinda will also share some stories about her extensive work in historic preservation around Mississippi.  Thanks to AIA Mississippi\, this session qualifies for one hour of CEU credit. \nOver lunch\, developers Chris Chain\, John McClure andDeborah Midanekwill share insights about their approach to making preservation projects happen\, answering that age-old preservation question\, “how did they pull that one off?”.  We will leave a little time for exploration\, as we learn about the exciting future of the J.J. SUMMARY:Strategic Planning & Financing for Small Business Owners: Lunch & Learn
DESCRIPTION:Join Michael Dollins\, CPA\, of Dollins & Associates and Timothy Dollins of SBA Lending at Regions Bank for a strategic planning and financial planning for small businesses on May 20 from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. They will be sharing industry insight on financial planning/loans for small businesses. Lunch will be served. Don’t miss out on this helpful event for your firm!  \nSeating is limited to 25\, so RSVP to kathryn@aiabham.org by May 16.  \n  \nMichael Dollins\, CPA\nDollins & Associates \nThe Birmingham\, Alabama business market is a familiar area for Michael Dollins. Not only is he a Birmingham native and graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham\, Michael has worked for several locally owned businesses over the years. Michael began working at a local CPA firm before graduating and continued this trend after graduation and receiving his CPA certification. While working at local firms\, he noticed many needs of the small business owner were not being met. Most CPA’s tended to work in specific areas of accounting and tax and did not address the specific needs of the business owner. His desire to work closely with businesses and their owners would ultimately result in leaving the traditional CPA firm. In January of 2006\, Michael jumped ship and started his practice\, focusing on the needs of the small business owner and not just tax returns. His practice has grown over the years\, assisting owners with everything from financing\, cash flow management\, growth plans\, day to day operations and procedures\, to the obvious annual tax return preparation. \nTimothy Dollins\nSBA Lending\, Regions Bank \nA native of Birmingham\, Alabama\, Tim Dollins has been financing small business in central Alabama for more than 14 years. A graduate of the University of Montevallo and Troy University\, he began his career at AmSouth Bank and later worked in the community banking market where he developed a unique skill-set in Small Business Administration guaranteed lending. During the 2008 financial crisis he recognized that commercial real estate financing would be reduced as the market corrected itself and that SBA lending would become an important financing vehicle for small businesses who are often short on collateral but still in need of financing. It was during this difficult time in the banking industry that he began to utilize the SBA 7(a) lending program to meet the needs of small businesses in central Alabama. In 2013 he joined Regions Bank as the Alabama market SBA Specialist working with small businesses throughout the state of Alabama and the panhandle of Florida. As the number 1 SBA 7(a) lender in the state of Alabama\, Tim Dollins is passionate about the small businesses and communities that he serves.
