AIA Birmingham: Newsletter masthead

Hi AIA Members,

Everyone always ask “What does AIA do for me?” Why should you join AIA?
One big reason is advocacy for the profession.  Grass Roots is held in Washington D.C. every February.  On February 3rd, 2011 each state had AIA representation and we went to the hill to ask our senators, representatives and congress to help us with these legislative issues:

Transit regulatory

Imagine the White House/HILL with several thousand AIA members (me wearing my I LOVE ARCHITECTS t-shirtsmiley) all knocking on the door with the same request.  They do listen. The 1099 bill has been repealed.  The 1099 bill would have made all small businesses file 1099 on all transactions of $600 or more.  Who would go to D.C. and fight to protect the architectural profession if AIA did not exist?

Thank you for your 2010 membership and we hope you will renew.

Peace and Fighting to Protect the Profession,
Rhea Williams,
AIA Executive Director
