The successful candidate should be able to:

Perform work on all phases of various architectural projects including design development, preparation of presentation drawings and specifications, design review, coordination and correlation of construction drawings.

Prepare schematics, design development and construction documents. Develop, modify and review production drawings and edit project narratives and specifications.

Research materials to determine appropriate selection for project. Plan, coordinate and administer projects from the initial programming stages all the way through to construction administration.

Review construction submittals and assist project manager in construction administration. Analyze client problems and develop architectural solutions to those problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Architecture pursuing licensure or licensed.

Minimum of 2 years of job-related design experience required.  Strongly prefer large healthcare and corporate design project experience.

Demonstrated experience using AutoCADD, Revit, Sketchup, PhotoShop, Bentley Microstation software.

Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with a variety personalities and communication styles and build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel

Time management skills

University of Alabama at Birmingham – Director University Architect

To provide overall responsibility for the architectural heritage and future development of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) campus. To provide executive direction to the project managers, professional architects and engineers (both in-house and contract) and service personnel regarding the design, maintenance and modification of facilities and grounds. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and eight (8) years experience as a registered Architect. Experience with site planning, building and architectural design for capital projects, including new facilities, additions and renovations. Experience working as an architect or administrator in a higher education environment, including planning, design and construction is desired. Currently registered as a Registered Architect by the Alabama Board for Registration of Architects, certified with a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Certification by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), or able to obtain Registration with the Alabama Board within ninety (90) days of hire date required. A Masters degree in Architecture, Public Administration or Business Administration and 6 years experience as a registered Architect would substitute the additional years experience. Coordinates advanced/complex projects by planning, designing and scheduling activities within the Architecture Division using the principles, practices and regulations of architecture to ensure compliance with stated goals and objectives of the City’s departments. Supervises and manages the contract administration function of the Architecture Division. Supervises subordinate engineers, architects, consultants and employees by assigning, reviewing and evaluating the work of professional and technical staff in the Architecture Division. Performs administrative duties including budget development and writing various reports.  Requirements:
1. A valid driver’s license.
2. Licensed as an Architect in the State of Alabama OR Certified through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) that would lead to licensure in Alabama within six weeks. 3. Experience managing a project portfolio of at least $20 million through all phases of project administration including managing multiple projects (15 minimum) ranging in scope from renovation to new construction.
4. Experience in public procurement of design and construction services.
5. Experience in facility space programming.
6. Experience in compliance with federal, state and local statutory requirements for construction (e.g., ADA, EPA, IBC).
7. Experience developing contract documents (e.g., owner architect agreement, owner-contractor agreement, owner special services agreement).
8. Experience managing clients, and professional/ technical staff.This position is with the City of Birmingham.
